Aaron Rodgers Placed On IR, While Packers Get Eliminated From Playoffs

Aaron Rodgers Placed On IR, While Packers Get Eliminated From PlayoffsThe season is over for Aaron Rodgers after the Green Bay Packers announced on Tuesday that the star quarterback would be placed on injured reserve.

Rodgers missed four games after being injured in Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings. During the 10-23 loss, Rodgers was hit hard by Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr and suffered a broken collarbone.

The decision to have the quarterback return to IR came after Rodgers was not 100% in his Week 15 appearance against the Carolina Panthers. On Sunday, Rodgers went for three interceptions and three touchdown passes, with a 57.8% completion rate on 45 passes. To put this into perspective, Rodgers had a 65.5 percent completion rate in Week 5 prior to being injured.

Rodgers was picked off three times, with the underlying cause being an underthrown ball. He was also sacked by Carolina three times and was hit a total of seven times.

"He took a number of hits. With all the factors involved, we felt this was clearly in Aaron Rodgers' best interest," stated Coach Mike McCarthy. "He's not happy about it. It's a hard day for him."

With Rodgers back on injured reserve, Brett Hundley will once again fill the starting quarterback role. Green Bay also re-signed Joe Callahan back to the active roster.

The next two games would be tough even with Rodgers in the mix, as the Packers first take on the Minnesota Vikings who are first in the NFC North. The early Vikings vs Packers betting line already has Green Bay as a 9-point home underdog at Lambeau in Week 16.

Green Bay Packers Eliminated From Playoffs

The end of Rodgers’ season also signaled the end of Green Bay’s playoff streak. This will be the first time that the Packers have missed the playoffs since 2008, when Rodgers was just beginning his career as a starter.

Green Bay losing to Carolina 31-24 was just one of the nails in the coffin, as the Falcons’ 34-20 win over the Bucs officially ended their playoff hopes.

With the Packers out of playoff contention for the first time in nine seasons, the team will look forward to next season. It is clear that the Packers will need to stop relying solely on Rodgers and confront the issues that are keeping the team from making the Super Bowl.

How the organization will address these issues will come in the offseason, however SportsBettingWisconsin thinks Rodgers has faith that the team will have no problem making the playoffs next year once his arm is it 100% strength.

"We have had a great run around here," stated Rodgers on Sunday. "As long as I am here, I am confident that we will be in the mix every single year."
